It took only 10years for the construction of Red Fort,it is quite obvious that with limited machinery, construction in those days took longer. But 10 years!!Amazing.Construction started in 1638 and completed in 1648.

lahore gate and delhi gate.
The Lahore gate got its name because of its orientation towards Lahore. After all, India and Pakistan used to be the same country once.
Amazing fact about Red Fort is that,it is called as Red Fort but it was not originally built that way.As per the Archaeological Survey of India, parts of the building were made of lime stone. When the white stone started chipping off, the building was painted red by the British. That's why it is known as Red Fort & natives translated it into Lal Quila. HaHaHa!!!
Lets talk about whats inside this huge master piece of architecture.
the boundaries of the monument were huge walls nearly 20-25ft tall ,and the most amazing fact is that "The high boundary walls were meant to provide maximum security to the royals".
talking about the scenario inside this monument with huge walls is quite replenishing.
the gardens and the flowers blooming there added a different level of charm to this place. The marble floral decorations and double domes in the fort’s buildings illustrate the later Mughal architecture. It is also one of the best examples reflecting the precision grandeur and finesse of architecture especially during the era of Shah Jahan.
We noticed, how Britishers destroy the beauty of Red Fort by taking diamonds from there, even Kohinoor diamond was the part of king's throne but they stole it too and took it away, you can see many holes there while every hole was filled with diamonds which was the main reason of its beauty.
There is an small Mahal too, known as Rang Mahal - literally meaning the palace of colours - was the residence of the emperor's wives, mistresses and maids. The emperor being one lucky man, lived right next door in the Khas Mahal so that he could visit the palace for dinner, or stroll over for coffee. However, the entry for others, except the princess was forbidden. Other, attractions of the fort are the Chawari Bazar, Chatta Chowk, Nahr-i-Behisht.
One more amazing fact is Every year on Independence Day, Prime Minister of India gives a speech and addressing the people of the nation and hoists the national flag at the Red Fort. This tradition has been continuing since the first Independence Day of India.
